As a frequent traveler, I prefer to travel light, and that starts with my suitcase. On a quest to find the lightest suitcase on the market, I came across British brand It Luggage. It Luggage’s World’s Lightest line lives up to the name, offering suitcases that weigh under 5 lbs. I wanted to test out It Luggage’s suitcases to see if they could withstand the rigors of travel, despite their light weight.
Over the years, I’ve learned the hard way how much of a difference just a few pounds can make when you’re rushing through airports, hauling bags up and down staircases, and lifting them into cramped overhead bins. Plus, every ounce counts when you’re trying to meet an airline’s strict weight requirements!

It Luggage World’s Lightest Softside Carry-On Spinner Review
The dimensions of the softside carry-on are ideal for travel.
Exterior Dimensions | Interior Dimensions | Weight | Price |
22 x 14 x 9 inches | 18.7 x 13 x 9 inches | 4.07 lbs | $119 |
I found that It Luggage’s World’s Lightest Softside Carry-On Spinner was easy to wheel around, even when it was packed full, thanks to the unique 8-wheel spinner system. The bag is made of a lightweight fiberglass frame covered in high-density polyester fabric and features a single-piece aluminum locking handle, all of which keep the weight so low. However, I found that the fabric withstood lots of rough handling, as did the frame.
The suitcase’s dimensions fit most airline carry-on requirements, and I liked that the flat interior provided more packing space than other bags that have a bump out for the handle. I also liked the number of pockets (both on the inside and outside) which helped me stay organized.
There are two compression straps on the larger side of this suitcase, which help to pack the suitcase to its full capacity.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Easy to maneuver
- Lots of packing space
- Durable
- Plenty of pockets
Cons
- The handle tended to get stuck when pulling in and out
- No built-in lock
It Luggage 21” Hardside Carry-On Expandable Spinner Review
I also tested It Luggage’s 21” Hardside Carry-On Expandable Spinner Suitcase.
Exterior Dimensions | Interior Dimensions | Weight | Price |
20.9 x 14 x 9.1 inches (plus 2.5 inches when expanded) | 18.5 x 13 x 9.1 inches | 6.37 lbs | $74 |
I really liked the expandable feature, which makes the suitcase super versatile so I can use it for longer and shorter trips. The bag is very lightweight for a hard-sided suitcase, and it was very easy to wheel through the airport and even on rough streets.
The suitcase’s appearance also impressed me—it reminds me of a more expensive brand (except for the prominent It logo on the front).
Overall, the hard-sided suitcase held up even better over numerous flights than the soft-sided one. The exterior did attract a few scuffs and marks, but they were easy to clean off. I would feel more confident checking the hard-sided bag than the soft-sided one if I had to gate-check my carry-on.
However, this suitcase was lacking in one feature—pockets. It didn’t have any additional organizational compartments on either the inside or the outside, which was inconvenient. You’d probably want to use at least a few packing cubes with this suitcase.
Another negative aspect was that the suitcase only had compression straps on one side. With a clamshell-style suitcase, this means you have to be careful about which way you open the bag, otherwise, everything will fall out of the side without the straps.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Expands up to 2.5” for extra space
- Inexpensive
- Looks like a more expensive bag
- Smooth-rolling wheels
- Durable
Cons
- Prominent logo branded on front
- Stitching at seams frays easily
- No pockets
- Compression straps only on one side
