Although I’m a die-hard carry-on only traveler, I confess to cheating a bit by looking for the absolute largest carry-ons possible to maximize my packing space. I’ve tested out a wide range of carry-on suitcases over the years, but the largest one I’ve tried so far is the Samsonite Outline Pro Carry-On Spinner Suitcase.
This 23” carry-on suitcase is probably not going to fit in the baggage sizer if you get a strict gate agent, but I’ve successfully brought it on numerous flights without anyone making me gate check—and I haven’t had any issues fitting it in the overhead compartment on any flights. If you need even more space, the suitcase has a zipper that allows you to expand the bag to gain an extra 1.5” of space. On a smaller regional plane with tiny overhead compartments, however, I don’t think this bag would fit, especially when expanded.
Samsonite is one of my favorite luggage brands, producing durable, well-designed bags that can withstand the rigors of frequent travel. The Outline Pro builds upon this legacy, incorporating a range of thoughtful features that cater to the needs of modern business travelers. From its lightweight yet sturdy polycarbonate shell to its smooth-gliding spinner wheels and comfortable, ergonomic handle, this carry-on suitcase is engineered to make navigating busy airports and hotel lobbies a relatively painless experience.
In the following review, I’ll delve into the Outline Pro’s key specifications and share my honest thoughts on how it has performed over the year that I’ve been using it.
Samsonite Outline Pro Carry-On Spinner Overview

The Outline Pro is a smart and sleek piece of luggage that’s packed with traveler-friendly features including top and side handles, an anti-bacterial coating on high-touch areas to help prevent germs, a built-in TSA lock and USB port, smooth dual spinner wheels, and a retractable handle.
The spinner suitcase is very lightweight for its size, weighing just 6.4 lbs. My favorite feature is the two KompressPak panel dividers that compress each side of the luggage to help you fit more in. Each panel divider has three zippered pockets which are great for keeping cords, jewelry, and other small items organized—and one of the pockets is even waterproof, so you can stash a wet swimsuit or umbrella in there to keep it separated from your dry clothes.
Another highlight is the built-in USB port, which offers a place to plug in your phone on the outside of the suitcase. The port has a cord that snakes through the interior of the luggage, where you can attach it to your own battery pack to power anything you need.
I also like the fabric interior lining, which is easy to vacuum out if it needs a quick cleaning.

Samsonite Freeform vs Outline Pro

Samsonite offers two similar carry-on suitcase options, the Freeform and the Outline Pro, that are worth considering. Both models measure 23 in. x 15 in. x 10 in. and cost $199. However, there are a few key differences between the two.
The Outline Pro is slightly lighter, weighing 6.4 lbs compared to 6.5 lbs for the Freeform. Additionally, the Outline Pro has a bit more expandable space, able to expand 1.5 inches compared to the Freeform’s 1 inch expansion.
Beyond the size and weight differences, the Outline Pro also includes some extra features not found on the Freeform. These include an integrated USB charging port and the KompressPak organizing compression panels with a dedicated wet pocket. Personally, I feel these added features provide more value for the Outline Pro compared to the standard Freeform model.
Overall, while both the Freeform and Outline Pro are solid Samsonite carry-on options, the additional expandability and organizational features of the Outline Pro make it the more appealing choice in my opinion.
