As someone who always packs light but somehow ends up needing extra space at some point in my trip, I was eager to test out the Tumi Just in Case Tote. Designed to fold up neatly and expand when needed, it promises to be the perfect backup bag for travelers. After testing it out on a number of trips, I found it to be a surprisingly useful and stylish addition to my carry-on-only setup. But is it worth the price?
The Tumi Just In Case Tote

The Tumi Just in Case Tote is made from lightweight yet durable nylon, making it easy to stash in your suitcase without adding bulk. When unfolded, it offers a roomy main compartment with a top-zip closure—ideal for last-minute souvenirs or an extra layer for chilly flights. Plus, it has a smart sleeve that slides over your suitcase handle, so you can carry it hands-free.
Performance
During testing, the tote proved to be a reliable sidekick. It folds into a compact pouch (included), making it a great emergency carry-on. The reinforced handles are comfortable to carry, though they’re not padded, so heavy loads can dig in a bit. While the tote isn’t structured, its flexibility allows it to adapt to whatever you need to carry.
Style & Versatility

Unlike some packable totes that look flimsy, the Tumi Just in Case Tote maintains a polished look, perfect for city travel or business trips. I have plenty of cheap foldable totes, and the Tumi one definitely outclasses all of them. I would use this as a laptop bag for an important meeting if needed, as it looks professional. I also love the wide variety of colors that it comes in (even if I went with boring black to keep it versatile.)

Love it when all your luggage coordinates? Tumi has a full Just in Case line, with a backpack and duffel in addition to the tote. Everything in the Just in Case line is packable and folds down flat.
Price & Where to Buy the Just In Case Tote
I got my Tumi Just In Case Tote on Amazon, where it was on sale for $118. (The tote costs $150 full price on Tumi’s website.) I’ve also seen great deals on the tote at Saks Off Fifth and Macy’s, so it’s definitely worth shopping around before you buy.
Tumi Just In Case Tote Dupes
Even if you snag it on sale, the Just In Case Tote is pretty pricey for a tote bag. Here are some affordable dupes we recommend:
