If you’re the type of traveler who likes their luggage to look as good as your airport outfit, Béis might just be your new obsession. Founded by actress Shay Mitchell, Béis has taken the carry-on and made it chic, but without sacrificing function. Béis first caught my eye on Instagram (the colorful brand is all over social media), and I was intrigued by the specs and rave reviews, so I bought it to test out on a number of trips.

This is my honest review of Béis The Carry-On Roller.

Overview

Béis The Carry-On Roller is a sleek, hard-shell suitcase made from durable, water-resistant polycarbonate and polyester. Its standout feature is the interior organization system: a structured main compartment with compression straps, one zip and one frosted pocket, a smaller zip pouch for valuables, and separate bags for laundry or shoes.

The most unique feature about the carry-on roller, however, is the weight indicator. Béis has built a travel scale into the bag so you can see if it will meet your airline’s weight requirements when flying. There’s also a TSA-approved lock, a cushioned handle, and a retractable bag strap that can hold up to 15 lbs.

Dimensions & Capacity

Béis offers two sizes of carry-ons: the small carry-on and the regular carry-on. I went with the regular option since it still fits in most overhead compartments, but allows for more packing space for longer trips. I may invest in the small carry-on in the future for shorter weekend trips.

It’s worth noting that the regular carry-on has an expandable center that you can unzip to add 2” of extra space, whereas the small carry-on does not.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Durable, water-resistant exterior that actually stands up to airport abuse
  • TSA-approved combination lock
  • Organized interior with compression straps and plenty of pockets
  • Smooth, quiet spinner wheels (no one likes a screeching spinner)
  • Wipe-clean and stain-resistant material
  • Included pouches for laundry and shoes
  • Stylish, minimalist design in sophisticated colors
  • Padded telescoping handle
  • Built-in weight indicator
  • Expandable

Cons

By far, the biggest con I’ve found with the Béis Carry-On is the weight. Clocking in at 8.36 lbs, the bag is pretty heavy before you even start packing.

If you’re looking for some lightweight options, here are some lighter carry-ons I’ve tried:

Price

Béis The Carry-On Roller retails for $268 on Beis’ website. However, I’ve occasionally seen it go on sale at Bloomingdales, so it’s worth checking there before buying. The carry-on feels very high quality and durable, and is likely to be a buy it for life type of suitcase.

FAQ Section

  • Is the Béis Carry-On Roller airline approved? Yes, it fits in most major domestic and international overhead bins, though always check your specific airline’s dimensions.
  • Does the Béis Carry-On have a battery? No, there’s not built-in charger.
  • How do I clean my Béis luggage? You can use a damp cloth and mild soap. For scuffs on the polycarbonate, a Magic Eraser works well.

Béis vs. Away: Which One Should You Choose?

Béis and Away are the social media darlings when it comes to carry-ons. Here’s a breakdown of the differences

  • The Extras: Béis includes a built-in weight indicator (perfect for avoiding overweight baggage fees) and a retractable bag strap to hold your tote or purse on top of the suitcase.
  • Organization: While Away is a classic clamshell, Béis is a “pocket lover’s dream.” The interior features multiple zippered compartments and a separate laundry/shoe bag.
  • The Price: Béis typically comes in about $30–$80 cheaper than Away, giving you more features for less money.
  • Expansion: Béis’ carry-on has an expansion feature that adds two inches if you need it.
