Between dry airplane air and jet lag, nothing sabotages your skin quite like travel. I have my travel skincare routine of serums, SPF, and plenty of hydration on lock, but lately I’ve noticed a new trend on social media: people strapping on glowing, slightly sci-fi silicone masks, like the Omnilux Contour Mask.
Like all the other red light masks on the market, the Omnilux promises to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and create a radiant complexion. But does it actually deliver the post-vacation glow, or is it just another pricey but useless gadget destined to haunt the drawer next to my jade roller? I took it for a spin to find out.
Omnilux Contour Red Light Mask Review

The silicone design makes the Omnilux surprisingly comfortable to wear. Because it’s flexible, it actually wraps around the face rather than sitting awkwardly on top of it. I have a pretty small face, and have had trouble in the past getting sheet masks’ precut holes to line up with my face and mouth, but the Omnilux is easy to adjust with the straps so it fits comfortably.
The mask is technically “portable” because you aren’t tethered to a wall outlet. However, you are tethered to a controller/power bank that looks like a sleek white remote. The battery pack is fairly heavy, so if you just let it dangle, it will pull the mask down while you’re using it. I’ve had success wrapping the cord and pack loosely around my neck like a scarf, or tucking it into a shirt pocket while using it to make it more comfortable.
How to Use the Omnilux Contour
- Charge the controller (you cannot charge the controller while it’s plugged into the mask)
- Thoroughly wash your face (the Omnilux must be used on clean, dry skin).
- Strap the mask on for 10 minutes (the light will go off when the 10 minutes is up)
That’s it! It’s very easy to use.
The Experience: Can You Multitask?

The lights are dermatologist-level red and near-infrared light, so they’re extremely powerful. Because the eye holes are generous, you can absolutely scroll through TikTok or answer emails while you marinate in the red light. I caught up on my morning scrolling with zero issues.
However, the claim that you’ll be able to walk around and actually do things might be a bit overstated, unless you have less sensitive eyes than I do. Do not try to navigate a cluttered hotel room or walk down stairs while wearing it. The red glare around the eyes affects your peripheral vision just enough that I walked into a partially closed door while wearing it. Stick to stationary activities like reading, scrolling, or meditating.
Is the Omnilux Contour Mask Good for Travel?
Opening up the package, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Omnilux Contour comes with a variety of adapters for travel.
Because it’s flexible silicone, the mask lays completely flat and comes with its own carrying case. I slide it right into the front pocket of my carry-on or lay it flat on top of my packing cubes. It takes up virtually zero space, which is a miracle considering the tech involved. In my opinion, the Omnilux is the best pick for people looking to keep up their routine while on the road.
The battery charge holds up impressively well. I went on a five-day trip and didn’t need to recharge it once. Just remember to store it flat when you aren’t using it to protect the internal wiring.
Omnilux Contour Pros and Cons

Pros
- Travel-Friendly Design: It packs completely flat. If you can fit a magazine in your bag, you can fit this.
- Comfort: The flexible silicone molds to your face, making it infinitely more comfortable (and better fitting) than hard-shell masks.
- Battery Life: It holds a charge for days, meaning you can leave the charger at home for weekend trips.
- Efficiency: You only have to use the Omnilux for 10 minutes a day, three to five times a day.
- It Works: This is without a doubt the most effective thing I have ever used on my skin.
The Cons
- The Controller is Awkward: While wireless, the power bank cord can pull the mask down if you don’t have a pocket to tuck it into.
- No Eye Shields: The red glow is intense around the eyes and could definitely be bothersome if you’re sensitive. However, I don’t see away around this if you want to truly target the fine lines around your eyes.
Does the Omnilux Contour Mask Work?
Without a doubt, this is by far the most effective thing I’ve ever used on my skin (and I use prescription strength retinol.) I was expecting to have to wait weeks to see results, but I was getting compliments on my glowing skin within the first few days of using it. Only having to commit 10 minutes a day makes me want to actually use the mask, and I’ve seen noticeable improvements on my red, sun damaged nose, my fine lines, and my overall skin tone.
Where to Buy
The Omnilux Contour is only sold on Omnilux’s website. If you see it elsewhere, it may be counterfeit.
